At the beginning of the year I committed myself to putting some effort into maintaining a blog. If putting my thoughts out for public consumption is part of our lives, then it would be smart to make it a little more long form. Get away from the hot take, force myself back into thinking with a little more depth.

Now we are at the mid-year mark and its time for an assessment. I have managed to write one longer form piece, and I put together a number of link roundups. Overall better than many of my past attempts to maintain a blog, however still not as consistent as I would have liked. Some of the drop off I think was simply the shift from cold months to warmer; more walks and bike rides are not a bad excuse to post less! However I know that some of it is getting distracted by the same old stuff.

So I am going to try two things.

First I am going to try writing on this set-up. The other one was pretty minimal, however I've been tinkering with this one and kinda like it more. Also there were indications that the other site was going to become more integrated with ATProtocol and that hasn't played out. Whereas this operation seems smooth in it's connections.

Second I want to develop the habit of once a week going through everything that I have posted on Bluesky and find one thing to expand upon. Even if it's just a couple paragraphs. I think finding a hurdle that's above link round-up, but below something long and multifaceted.

It's good to remember that achieving better habits involve punctuated equilibriums and turning what is achievable in the near term into a foundation for the long term.
